For a first year project at Staffordshire University called 'Timeline' based around prominent points of Graphic Design history. For my project, I was given the year 1933 A.K.A the year the London Underground map was redesigned by Harry Beck. Rather than design the numbers around the 1930's version of the map itself, I decided to take a direct approach and really dig deep into the time period and how it was created.
For the one, I decided to design it in the style of De Stijl as found in my initial research, that art movement was very prominent during the time and some even speculated that Beck took inspiration from the art style in his own version of the map.
The nine is incorporated with a snippet of the original sketch Beck did of the map before creating the final product, including his own handwriting.
Whereas the two three's represent the more mechanical side of things since after all Beck was no Graphic Designer, rather a technical draughtsman. The first connotates vintage blueprinting whilst the other nods towards electrical wiring.
